MONTGOMERY INVITATIONAL - 9/7/17
Both Teams got off to a good start to the season after the Hurricane layoff. Varsity Boys finished 9th in a very good field and the Varsity Girls were 6th. Efrain Lira was 6th against some of the best 6A competition in the State while Mariela Guerrero was 10th and Emika Sorenson was 14th in the girls race. The JV Boys were 10th and JV Girls 6th. Our Freshman Boys did not have a full team but competed well. Eian Bracken was the top finisher in 22nd place.
WILDKAT INVITATIONAL - 9/14/17
The Willis Cross Country Team hosted 18 teams at the WildKat Invitational on Thursday and had great results!
Race day diet - On the morning of the big day, have a light breakfast; a bagel or poptart, fruit, and some water is ideal. Bananas and berries are great! A yogurt with fruit and granola is good. Pancakes, toast, French toast are good in small amounts. Stay away from greasy, fried foods. Water, deluded Gatorade, low sugar juices are good to wash it down with.
Before the race, staying hydrated is most important. Drink some fluids every 20 minutes. Try to get about 25 grams of carbohydrates 60 minutes before you run and stick with a sports drink or easily digested foods like sports bars or gels, bananas. Eat something you have tried before. Try to keep things as normal as possible. Everyone's stomach reacts differently to different foods, and a race is not the best time to discover that a new sports bar doesn't agree with you.
