Eric Ezar was named as the Willis ISD Athletic Director in the summer of 2013. Mr. Ezar is a 1996 graduate of Tarleton State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education and a minor in History. He started his college career at Stephen F. Austin University, playing quarterback for two years before transferring to Tarleton State University where he was a quarterback and lettered two years.
Mr. Ezar has been involved in athletics for more than nineteen years. During these years he has served as an assistant coach at Euless Trinity HS, Brewer HS, Waxahachie HS, L. D. Bell HS, and North Crowley HS. From 2009-2013, Mr. Ezar served as the Athletic Director and Head Football Coach @ his alma mater W. T. White High School.
Some of the highlights of his career include, through efforts started when he began in 2009 at W. T. White, with hard work with feeder elementary and middle schools, he increased freshman/sophomore participation by three fold being the genesis of developing an outstanding football program for W. T. White High School. As the athletic director at W.T. White, he was the catalyst in the upgrade in girl’s sports program and the rise in participation numbers in track. W.T. White girl’s softball and volleyball programs have become district contenders with his astute hiring of quality coaches during this time. Mr. Ezar also added a Freshman B Football Team, Freshman Girls Basketball Team, JV Softball Team, and Freshman Track Program.
Mr. Ezar has touched countless players and coaches’ lives. He has coached two current NFL players, Jason Fox (Miami Dolphins) and Cyril Richardson (Buffalo Bills). He has coached former MLB player, Kelly Shoppach (Boston Red Sox). Finally he has coached one college QB coach, Chase Holbrook (Washington State) and one college head football coach, Scott Walden (East Texas Baptist University).
Mr. Ezar oversaw a historic year in Willis Athletics in 2015-2016 year. The Volleyball ball team finished 36-12 and was Regional Semi-Finalist, the Tennis team was an Area Finalist, the Football team made playoffs for 1st time in 5 years and Cross Country sent 3 runners to state. The winter season continued the run, seeing the girls soccer team being a Bi-District finalist, the wrestling team sent 6 wrestlers to state and had one power lifter qualify for state. The spring season only added to the great year, both Baseball and Softball were District Champions. The baseball team was an Area Finalist, and Softball was Regional Finalist. The track team added the cherry on top sending a 1600 meter and 3200 meter finalist to the State Meet in Austin.
Mr. Ezar has three children attending Willis ISD schools, Emily 17, EJ 13, and Jillian 7. Mr. Ezar has been married to his wife Julie for 19 years. Julie Ezar is a Diagnostician/ARD Facilitator for the Willis ISD.
